That was a much longer break than expected, various family and personal issues interfered with a prompt return, but all good now.

Photo of the day note
Photo of the day is in a temporary hiatus as I’m unable to get out to do photography at the moment owing to caring for a family member recovering from knee surgery. Will be back in regular action in another week or two. Here’s one to keep things going in the meantime. This is a shot from the 15 year old Sigma SD15 I’ve just acquired. The tiny 4.5MP files are good enough for A3 prints, amazingly.

Faces that follow
This is a strange optical illusion. Hollow masks (concave) that when lit in a particular way appear solid (convex) and as you move left and right they appear to turn to follow you. In reality these are two head-on dished masks. Apparently the illusion arises because when confronted with ambiguity, the brain prefers a convex interpretation over a concave and having made that interpretation, having the heads appear to turn is the only plausible explanation. Maybe something similar explains why I often see craters on the Moon and Mars as bumps rather than pits?
